An absolute link includes the scheme and host, such as https://www.semlion.com/services/. A root-relative link uses /services/; the browser resolves it against the current host. A path-relative link such as ../services/ also depends on the current path.
Neither format earns an automatic ranking advantage
Google’s crawlable-link examples include absolute and relative href values. The important test is whether the link resolves to the intended accessible page.
Choose the convention for its job
In a website template, root-relative internal links can make the same layout easier to test on staging. In email, exported documents or content distributed outside your domain, use complete URLs so the destination remains unambiguous. Treat canonical URLs and sitemap entries separately: Google recommends complete URLs in sitemaps.
Test before and after a release
For a bilingual agency site, check a Romanian article’s links from the Romanian page itself. A relative path may resolve differently from the same string pasted into a homepage template. Include enquiry links, images and pagination in the check.
Also look for staging domains, HTTP links that should use HTTPS, unnecessary redirect chains and spelling errors. These are concrete maintenance issues; changing every working link merely to obtain “more SEO value” is not a useful objective.
Google’s URL structure guidance provides further implementation context. SEM Lion’s web development service includes planning and validating website navigation.
